APN setup guide

For Japan This tool is designed for use in Japan.

An APN identifies the connection used for cellular data. Some devices configure it automatically. If cellular data already works, you do not need to change it.

Check your subscription and device

  1. Confirm that SIM/eSIM activation and any number-porting line switch have finished.
  2. Choose the settings for your carrier, plan and SIM in the APN list. Use legacy settings only when your subscription instructions specify them.
  3. Check your carrier’s device compatibility list for the exact model, original seller and SIM type. Models with similar names can have different compatibility.

The same APN address can use different credentials. For example, choose the separate Y!mobile or LINEMO entry for your subscription.

Each settings page links to the carrier’s official instructions. Menu names and required fields vary by device and OS.

Add an APN on Android or Galaxy

  1. Open Settings, then the relevant SIM under Network & internet or a similar menu, and find Access Point Names. Galaxy commonly uses Connections → Mobile networks → Access Point Names; names vary.
  2. Add an APN and enter your carrier’s values. Tap values with a copy icon on this site to copy them.
  3. Choose authentication and protocol options from the device’s menus. The Name field identifies the entry in your APN list.
  4. Save, then select the saved APN. Saving a new entry does not necessarily select it.

Check spaces, periods, commas, case and digits. Enter MCC/MNC when the official instructions require them. Do not fill blank fields with another carrier’s values.

Examples: LINEMO’s Android instructions and UQ mobile’s APN instructions.

Check the iPhone or iPad instructions

Your carrier determines whether manual APN entry or a configuration profile is needed. An editable APN menu may not appear. Android fields do not all map to iPhone settings.

If a profile is required, download it following the carrier’s instructions, review its contents in Settings, and install it. Downloading alone does not install the profile.

This site’s iPhone download generates an unsigned APN configuration profile in your browser. It is not an official carrier file. It does not include Android MMS settings or APN type.

If an old carrier’s APN profile remains installed, follow the carrier’s instructions to remove the obsolete profile. Look under Settings → General → VPN & Device Management or the equivalent menu. Ask your administrator about work or school profiles. An APN configuration profile is different from an eSIM; reviewing APN settings does not require deleting your eSIM.

Test with Wi-Fi temporarily off

Restart if required and enable cellular data. With multiple SIMs, choose the intended line for data.

Temporarily turn off Wi-Fi and try opening a website. Restore Wi-Fi afterward. Test voice calls, SMS and tethering separately if you need them.

If it fails, follow Troubleshooting after APN setup.
